Moderation: The Key To Successful Weight Loss

How many times have you heard the statement “everything in moderation”? As with anything done in moderation, the results seem to be better. If we had done our eating and drinking in moderation then we might not have gained as much body fat as we have. And the same has to be done for any weight loss program that we undertake. If we are to get back to our ideal weight, it has to be done in moderation. That way we have a better chance of staying at our ideal weight.

There is no benefit of going hammer and tongs at some exercise routine when we are not used to exercising to begin with. That will only result in injury, which will make us less mobile, which presents the opportunity to gain even more fat. Just like sudden diet changes can send the body wrong signals, and it ends up storing fat. But if you make gradual changes to your eating habits, and do it in moderation, then your body doesn’t feel as if it is being starved and reacts in a wholly better way.

Moderate changes in exercise and diet won’t change your life in a huge way, and that in effect makes it easier for you to maintain these changes for longer, indeed until they become second nature. You will then get to the stage where you can keep reducing your body fat, gradually, and become healthier, fitter and more energetic as time goes by.

Even your water intake has to be in moderation because drinking water to excess can flush important nutrients out of your system, thus causing more harm than good. It is better to drink a glass of water here and there throughout the day, rather than gallons of water at a time, in the faint hope that it will make you lose weight quicker.

Even fine foods need to be eaten in moderation, as too much of these foods can cause the body to store them as fat. It really is a simple rule to follow. If you eat, drink or exercise too much or too little, it is unlikely to bring you the desired results. Everything in moderation, the key to success.

Your Weight Loss Requirements

To gain the maximum return from any weight loss program, it has to be planned so that it meets your specific requirements, as each individual’s requirements are different.

The way to work out exactly what you need is to look at every aspect of your lifestyle, from your exercise routines to the food in your diet. You will also have to take into account your employment conditions, as this might affect your ability to manage your weight loss program. Your job could  be another reason that you are overweight, but it is much easier to have a successful weight loss program than it is to change jobs!

Your body weight, height and gender are all factors on how many calories you will need during the day, and you can always adjust your nutritional needs to make sure that you remain healthy while losing weight.

You will also need to have a look at any supplements that may be required, or you are already on, and these might have to be altered accordingly to fit in with any fitness training you might be on, or indeed, any of the factors that have already been mentioned. Also, your current health condition comes into the equation when planning any weight loss program. Any medicine you are taking will need to be taken into account as well. Depending on what treatment you are on, some medicines make it more difficult to lose weight, so this has to be planned for as well.

You will also need to think about maintaining any weight loss program that is designed for you, and an evaluation of the plan should be made after the first week or so, and at regular intervals after that. You may have to make adjustments periodically to see some realistic results

Individually, your requirements will change over a period of time and that change can be quite rapid as your body loses fat and your fitness levels increase. So you need to know that any weight loss program that has been specially planned for you now, may not be suitable in a few weeks, and will have to be altered accordingly.

If you take all these factors into account, it will help you to get the maximum results in the minimum time.

Reducing Your Appetite Through Exercise

December 1, 2009 by

Many people think that if they exercise on a regular basis, it will make them feel more hungry and lead to them eating more. This fact makes them fear they will actually gain weight, which would defeat the purpose of going on an exercise routine.

What they fail to realize is that it is your blood sugar level that will make you feel hungry. When your blood sugar level drops, that is when you will start to have food cravings and seek out some food to raise these levels again. But exercise helps to stabilize the level of your blood sugars, and in so doing stops you from wanting food as often.

The exercise activates your muscles, and rather than burning carbohydrates, it helps your body to burn fat. Because you are not burning as many carbohydrates, this helps to keep your blood sugars more balanced. It also helps to raise your metabolic rate, and your body will burn oxygen more efficiently, and that in turn will help you to use the nutrients in your diet in a more effective manner. It also aids in the elimination of waste products, which means you get better nourishment from the food that you eat. And by getting more nourishment means you don’t need as much food to feel satisfied.

Another benefit of exercise is that your body temperature will rise, and this will help to stimulate the fat that is used for energy, rather than the food. Also after exercising your resting basal metabolic rate will be raised for a considerable length of time, which will help you to burn more fat and improve the ratio of body fat percentage in your body.

All in all, there are many good reasons why you should consider introducing some sort of exercise routine in to your weight loss plan. And even if you are reluctant, you should try to understand that it will probably be easier to increase any exercise that you do, than it will be to reduce the food that you have cravings for every hour of the day.
