The Pros And Cons Of The Wii Fit Plus

Wii Fit PlusNintendo took the word exercise and created a gaming system around it. In fact, they would take exercise to the next level. They introduced the Wii Fit Plus to the market, and it was, and still is, a huge hit. Not surprising, really, as the Wii Fit attracted the same sort of attention when it first appeared in 2008. The Wii Fit Plus, simply put, is just an updated version of the original Wii Fit. And like most things in life you will find that it has it’s good and bad points. After some recent research and survey, here is a list of pros and cons for the Wii Fit Plus.

Let’s start with the pros:

  • Convenience – You can workout when and where you want
  • Progress – Easy to track weight loss because it does it for you
  • Fun – It doesn’t feel like exercise because you have fun using it
  • Kids love it – Making it easier to get the kids involved in family time
  • No Babysitter Required – As you don’t need to leave home to exercise
  • And Last But Not Least – It’s easy to use

Now For The Cons:

  • Intensity – The workouts aren’t very intense, especially for someone that’s been working out for a long time and is pretty fit
  • Sluggish – The balance board’s response time can be a little on the slow side
  • Weight Limit – There are people that weigh more than 330 pounds, which is the weight limit, that want to participate in the fun too
  • Gimmicky – Seems like there’s a lot of hype built up about it. Some people weren’t as impressed with it once it was purchased
  • BMI measurements – You can’t and shouldn’t rely on these results. The computer can’t take into consideration the way your body is built. Some people are more muscular and will have a higher BMI which isn’t bad but to the Wii Fit Plus it makes them seem overweight
  • Remote – It only comes supplied with 1 remote, and it’s about $40.00 to buy an extra one
  • Expensive – It’s cheaper in the longer run than, say, a gym membership but it’s still a large chunk of change up front

So there you have your list of pros and cons for the Wii Fit Plus. Most of the participants in the survey said that they would definitely recommend the gaming console as it was well worth the investment. But it is a personal choice, and if you are considering buying a Wii Fit Plus, do make sure it is something that will fit into your lifestyle.

Wii Fit Plus ExerciseThe Nintendo Wii gaming console first appeared on the market in 2005, with the Wii Fit being introduced in May of 2008. The Wii Fit Plus was made available to buy in 2009, and although this “new and improved” version may not be selling as quickly as it once did, it is still a hot item and sales are comfortably still in the millions.

So what’s all the fuss about? After all it’s just another gaming device right? Well yes, and no! It is a gaming console, sure, but it can also help you to get fit AND have fun doing it. And people love that fact. The whole family can get involved, especially the kids, in getting up, getting moving and getting fit. With obesity rates on the rise, getting some exercise has become more important than ever before.

You’re probably thinking well OK, that’s great but will the Wii Fit Plus really help me lose weight? That’s kind of a loaded question. Because if you are following a healthy diet at the same time, then any type of activity you do has the potential to help you lose weight. As long as you are burning more calories than than you consume. So, for the purpose of this post we’ll assume you’re eating a well-balanced healthy diet. And in that case the answer is yes the Wii Fit Plus can help you to lose weight.

Here are four ways the Wii Fit Plus can help you to your weight loss targets:

1 Body Test.

OK, technically this won’t help you lose weight, but this is where you’ll get weighed, learn of your BMI, etc. The machine will keep track of this information for you and you’ll be able to track your progress along the way. A very handy tool.

2 Aerobics.

This is the section where you’re going to find the exercising games that will make you break sweat and get your heart rate up. You’ll also find things like super hoopla and step aerobics in here.

3 Variety.

One thing a lot of people on a weight loss plan have a grumble about is the fact that they get bored doing the same exercises again and again. With the Wii Fit Plus, the large variety of exercise games that are available make it a lot easier not to get bored while keeping fit.

4 Frequency.

As with any exercise program consistency is key. You can’t expect to lose weight if you only use it once in a while. So set up a program and stick to it. You’ll be glad you did when you start to see some results.

So, now you know you can lose weight with the Wii Fit Plus, and have fun at the same time, why not give it a go. Just remember to use it along with a healthy eating plan and you’ll be happy with the results you can achieve.

The Raw Food Detox

If you are thinking of detoxifying, or cleansing your body, your first thought will probably be along the lines of having to drink some weird and probably awful tasting concoction that will help to rid your body of all the bad toxins that have built up over the years. But it doesn’t have to be like that. Did you know you can do a body cleanse by eating raw food? Well, you can!

Fruit For JuiceThere are some guidelines that need to be followed when detoxing with raw food. Firstly, you will need to eliminate alcohol, caffeine, sugar and any other stimulants, including any herbal supplements that are non-detox specific. This is best done the day before you actually begin, or sooner if possible. Start taking calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, iron and sulphur. This will give you a jump start on your detox.

Raw Foods To Include

Try to use as many raw vegetables, fruits, vegetable and fruit juices as possible. Raw nuts, like walnuts and almonds, and quality fish products are also recommended. Invest in a juicer if you don’t already have one because it is possible to turn just about any fruit or vegetable into a juice, or a combination of different juices. Also, make sure you drink plenty of purified water during the detox process.

Foods To Avoid

Some things you should never eat are raw eggs, beef or poultry. You should also steer clear from foods with sugar in them like cake, soda and candy. This includes artificial sweeteners as well.

Superfoods

In addition to the raw foods mentioned above, there are some other foods which are classed as super foods when used in any detox plan. Most of these can be found at your local health food store, so you might want to consider adding them to your raw food to include. Some of these are listed below.

  • Wheat-grass contains the most vitamins and minerals needed for human consumption. It is a natural detoxifier and eliminates body and breath odours.
  • Bee Pollen contains every single nutrient you need to live. It’s a natural energizer, slows down the aging process and lowers cholesterol.
  • Tibetan Goji Berries are extremely rich in anti-oxidants, are an excellent source of Vitamin C and soluble fiber. They are a powerful anti-fungal and anti-bacterial food and have been used to treat eye problems, allergies, liver problems, diabetes and more.
  • Hemp seed has the perfect balance of Omega 3 and 6. It’s easy to absorb and used to fight against cancer.
  • Maca is known for its amazing health benefits including energy boosting, increasing libido and fertility in both men and women. Maca does not work instantly, but eaten over time, you will receive the full benefits, including good blood pressure and a boost to your immunity system.

This is just an insight into how a detox plan should work. Be aware that, like any other plan, a detox and cleansing will not work for everyone. And please remember, before starting ANY new diet or nutritional program, ALWAYS consult your doctor.

Review Of The Nintendo Wii Fit Plus

May 18, 2010 by
Filed under Exercise & Fitness, Product Reviews

Wii Fit PlusThe Wii Fit Plus was released to the market in 2009 as the updated version of the original Wii Fit, which itself appeared on the scene in 2008. After hearing and reading all the pre-launch hype, it was pretty hard not to run out and buy one as soon as it hit the shelves. What stopped me from doing this was the fact that I wasn’t sure if an exercise game for a gaming console was worth $100. (And that’s assuming you already own a Wii console, if not you are going to have to fork out more.)

Eventually though, I did give in and paid the cash to get it. And I have to say it was one of the best decisions I have made. The Wii Fit Plus actually makes you WANT to exercise, because it doesn’t feel like exercise at all. It is really FUN to do and I find that I don’t get bored because of the variety of activities that are available.

Here are some of the activities that I like in the aerobics section:

  • Free Step
  • Hula Hoop
  • Basic Run
  • Rhythm Boxing

These are only four of the exercises that you will find in the aerobic category, and there are another three categories for you to choose from – strength training, yoga and balance. I find that I mostly do the exercises in the aerobics section because I feel they give me a better workout and I can burn more fat.

Here is a short video of the Wii Fit Plus in action:

The fact that exercising is fun makes a big difference. And the Wii Fit Plus also has the ability to weigh me and track my information. It allows me to set targets of how much weight I want to lose in a specific time scale, and to customise my own workouts and save them for future use. I can even track my steps for the day and set targets as to the amount of calories I would like to burn.

But like most things, it is not perfect. For example, when I am doing the step aerobics exercise and want to increase the intensity, I can find that I am stepping a lot faster than the game allows. There is an option to speed it up but it never seems to be fast enough. Another quirk is when I am doing the free step and using the balance board, sometimes the board will not register the movement. It can take a few minutes to register and count my steps. None of these things are hugely serious, but they can be annoying.

So if you were seriously thinking of buying the Wii Fit Plus, but were not quite sure yet, then my review would give it top marks and I would happily recommend it to you. If you have just started out on an exercise program and would like something that is easy, convenient and FUN, then the Wii Fit Plus is for you.
